Xian Bell Tower

The Xian Bell Tower is an iconic building located in the centre of Xian city. Originally built in the 1300's, the Bell Tower was repositioned in the 1500's to its current position. This is because the city had expanded East and the Bell Tower should be located in the central position of the city.

The tower houses a huge bell which weighs in at 6500kg and is nearly 2.5m tall. Although the Xian Bell Tower owes its design and architecture to the Ming Dynasty, the bell itself was forged during the Tang Dynasty period some 600 years earlier
